Summer time in Byron Bay
We are now a 14 hr busride north of Sydney in a place called Byron Bay. We'll probably stay here for a couple of days, riding the good waves on our boogeyboards and surfboards, work on our tan and just do some general relaxing.
As always, we bring you some facts about the place we are staying: Byron Bay is located about 800 km north of Sydney and 200 km south of Brisbane. Cape Byron, a headland adjacent to the town, is the eastern-most point of the continent of Australia, and is part of a giant volcanic crater. The main "cultural attraction", the Cape Byron lighthouse was opened in 1901, and has the most powerful beacon in Australia. The town has several beautiful beaches and it is a resort popular with both domestic and international tourists, including backpackers, who travel along the Australian coast.
Events such as yoga retreats, pagan gatherings, raves and music fesitvals, including the East Coast Blues & Roots Music Festival and Splendour in the Grass, are based in Byron Bay. The area is also noted for its wildlife.
Tomorrow, Mari and Beth, our friend and travel mate from the US, are going to have their very first time on a surf board with the local surfing school, "Style Surf". If we ever find a PC with a USB connection we'll surely post some pictures from this major event.
We dunno for how long we'll be staying here - if the weather turns out good (there is a big probability that it will do just that), we might just be here until we head back to Sydney on the 16th.
